Volleyball earns first playoff berth in 3 years

11/3/2025 6:24:00 PM

The Triton College volleyball team has punched their first ticket to postseason play in three years. The Trojans were one of the 16-teams that qualified for the NJCAA Region 4 Division II Tournament.

Triton (13-16) is the No. 14 seed and will travel to Dixon on Wednesday (Nov. 5) to face No. 3 seeded Sauk Valley Community College in a District B Quarterfinal. The Region 4 gets two automatic spots in the national tournament and splits 16-teams into two separate brackets (District A & B).

The Sky Hawks are ranked No. 16 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll. The Arrowhead Conference champions have only lost one Region 4 contest all season.

Despite not seeing the Sauk Valley during the season, the Trojans hope the strengthen schedule of games highlighted by playing current No. 1 in the country Parkland College will help prepare them for the task against the Sky Hawks.

Triton has had their best season under third year head coach Guy Lum as this season the 13 wins is the most for the Trojans since their last playoff appearance in 2022 when they won 16 games.

Sophomore Brianna Hernandez, who was named Second Team All-Region 4 will lead the Triton attack.

Hernandez, along with sophomore teammates: Paige Walker, Marissa Tamborino, Analis Reyes and Samantha Rosspank were recognized in the Trojans regular season finale, a heartbreaking five-set loss to the College of Lake County Oct. 30 in River Grove.

The Triton/Sauk Valley winner will face the winner of the contest between No. 6 seed Kankakee Community College and No. 11 seed Carl Sandburg College on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the Region 4 District B semifinals in Madison, WI.
