The Triton College athletic department has named
Guy Lum as the 14
th head volleyball coach in program history. Lum comes to River Grove with over 20 years of coaching experience at the club and high school levels.
His club experience includes coaching most recently at Mission Volleyball in Marengo along coaching teams at Sky High, Rolling Thunder and Top Flight.
At the high school level, Lum last season was the JV coach at Elgin Academy. He also made previous stops as an assistant girls coach at Westminster Christian School in Elgin and Burlington Central. In addition, Lum served as an assistant boys coach at St. Charles North.
Last fall, Lum was at Elgin Community College as an assistant coach and eventually finished the season as their interim head coach. His other collegiate experience includes a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Judson University. Â
Lum is taking over a squad that finished 16-13 in 2022 and is excited about the opportunity to lead the Trojans volleyball program.
"I am very thankful for being allowed to coach at Triton and grateful for the support I've already received from the athletic staff, the board of trustees, and the athletes that I've met," Lum said. "I look forward to building an effective volleyball program and educating athletes to make a positive contribution to the community."
The Triton volleyball team will open the 2023 season with 4 games at NJCAA Opening Weekend Tournament August 18 and 19 in Rockford. The Trojans first game will be against Central Lakes College from Minnesota. Triton's first home game will take place Monday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. vs. Oakton College.
