It was only a matter of when the Triton College men's soccer team would score in their annual rivalry game against the College of DuPage Sept. 16 at the Jorndt Athletic Complex Multi-Purpose Field.
 
The Trojans dominated both shot attempts and possession in the first half and had nothing to show for it on scoreboard. But a pair of second half goals and solid goal keeping by Adam Jedrzejczyk (Oak Forest) was more than enough for Triton to earn their fifth shutout consecutive victory, this time a 2-0 result over the Chaparrals.
 
Triton (5-0-1), who received votes in this weeks NJCAA Division II national poll got on the board in the 54^th minute on a goal from Manuel Martinez (Larkin), his fourth of the season. Joshua Cruz (Bolingbrook) would add an insurance goal for the Trojans in the 78^th minute.
 
"After giving up the tying goal to Elgin in the last 40 seconds, we've been pretty much perfect in the back,' said Triton head coach Piotr Sliwa.
 
The win over COD (0-5-1) was also some payback after the Trojans lost to their former N4C Conference foes 3-2 a year ago in Glen Ellyn.
 
"It's a rivalry," Sliwa said. "Last year was the first time they beat us in almost 15 years and the guys who returned this year marked this one on their calendars as a lot of the players know one another. It's always a hard game against (COD). They were the most organized team we've face so far this season. They didn't make it easy on us, but glad we got the win."
 
Triton will return to the pitch on Saturday (Sept. 18) to host Kennedy-King College. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Jorndt Athletic Complex Multi-Purpose Field.
