Emotions tend to run high when the Triton College men's soccer team plays their neighborhood rivals up River Road, Oakton College. Their annual meeting Aug. 29 in Des Plaines was no different.
 
But in the end, it was the Trojans who prevailed 1-0 in a physical and at times chippy affair as the teams combined for 10 total cards.
 
Triton (2-0-1) dominated the play and had multiple scoring chances, as the Trojans outshot Oakton (1-1-1) 18-7.
 
After a scoreless first half, Triton finally broke through in the 63^rd minute after playing most of the second half up a man. Manuel Martinez (Larkin) found the back of the net off an assist from Akli Akkouche (Algeria) to give Triton the lead.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Jedrzejczyk (Oak Forest) made the lone goal stand-up with five saves, including a couple of key stops late in the contest.
 
The Trojans do not return to the pitch until after the Labor Day holiday when they will host No. 17 ranked Parkland College on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Jorndt Athletic Complex Multi-Purpose Field. Game time is 5 p.m.
