Triton and Madison end scoreless in nationally ranked showdown

The fans who came out to the Jorndt Athletic Complex Multi-Purpose Field Sept. 23 to witness the NJCAA Top 20 men's soccer showdown between No. 19 Triton College and No. 10 Madison College got their moneys worth.

In an emotionally charged and physical contest, that saw both teams exert a lot of energy, neither side could find back of the net as last seasons Region 4 title game rematch finished in a scoreless tie.

"I'll take the result," said Triton head coach Piotr Sliwa. "Madison is a great team and hope we get to meet again in November in the final."

The Wolfpack (4-1-2) had the majority of chances in the first half, with six shot attempts to only one for the Trojans (6-0-2).

Things evened out more in a highly competitive second half, with both sides having their share of chances. Triton really could not challenge Madison keeper Thomas Randall with any clean strikes on goal despite getting a couple corner kick chances late in the game.

The Wolfpack had two great opportunities within the final 10 minutes, but Trojans goalie Adam Jedrzejczyk was up to the task, denying Madison each time. For the game, the sophomore from Oak Forest made six saves to help Triton pickup their seventh straight shutout.

The Trojans have only allowed one goal in the eight games played this season.

"Seven game without allowing a goal by Adam (Jedrzejczyk) is impressive," Sliwa said. "He played a great game and so did our defense. I think both teams gave their hearts out there and left everything out on the field."

Triton will travel to Oak Creek, WI on Saturday (Sept. 26) to play Milwaukee Area Technical College in a Noon start.

"After an emotional game against a quality opponent, it's easy to have a letdown," Sliwa said about the next game. "But we'll get the guys refocused not to let that happen so we can get a good result in Milwaukee."
