The tradition of the Triton College wrestling program is a rich one as the sport has accounted four of the five national championships in Triton athletic history. The 2022-23 Trojans look to rewrite some of that great history this season and so far are off to great start.
Triton is
ranked second in the first NJCAA wrestling poll released Nov. 14. The No. 2 spot is the highest national ranking for the program since the mid-1980's.
The Trojans have seven individual wrestlers ranked in their weight classes with 2021 All-American
Curtis Ruff II getting the highest solo ranking, second at 197lbs.
Drake Campbell had the next highest individual ranking, third at 149lbs.
Anthony Schickel (125lbs),
Elon Rodriguez (133lbs) and
Alonzo Smiley (165) were each ranked fourth at their weights. Both
Billy Tucker (141) and
Ronald Krewer (HWT) were ranked seventh individually. Â
Triton on Nov. 12 was in Des Moines, IA at very strong and deep Grand View Open. Schickel and
Jeivan Ross (174lbs) each took home third place finishes.
"This is a tough tournament and many of our guys performed well," said head coach
Tim Duggan. "It is great to compete against some of the top team in Iowa from Division I to JUCO. We have a lot to build on as we get ready to wrestle next at Lindenwood Open."
The Lindenwood Open is this Saturday, Nov. 19 beginning at 9:00 a.m. in St. Charles, MO.
