Trojans earn four champions at Harper Open

With the Triton College wrestling team essentially back at full-strength, the Trojans showed why they are ranked No. 7 in the latest NJCAA rankings Jan. 25 at the Harper Open in Palatine.

Triton had their biggest team day of the season with four individual champions, a pair of runners-up's and a third-place finisher.

Ryan Boersma at 285 led the way with his fourth individual title of the year. The sophomore transfer from the University of Missouri once again dominated the field and won by technical fall (17-2) over Callen Smithpeter from Minnesota State in the championship match. Boersma is currently ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA at 285.

Mustafa Salimi since his return the second half of the season has wrestled well and claimed his first title of the season at 174. Salimi, ranked third in the nation at his weight took care of unattached wrestler Noah Torgerson by a 9-7 decision in title bout.

Andre Giurini at 125 edged out Joey Sikorsky of Harper in a 7-6 decision to win his first individual crown of the year.

Hayden DeMarco was victorious in the 133lb weight class for his second title of the season.

Ghee Rachal (197) and Keygan Jennings (141) were second at their respected weights while Mikey DiBenedetto earned his first podium this season with a third place showing at 141.

The Trojans will travel to Michigan this Saturday (Feb. 1) to compete at the Henry Ford Community College Open.
