The Triton College wrestling team placed second at the NJCAA Coaches Duals held Jan. 13 and 14 in Miami, OK. For the Trojans, ranked No. 6 in the most recent NJCAA poll, the showing at the NJCAA Coaches Duals was the best for the program as the team went 5-2 at the 20-team event.

Triton went 3-1 in pool play which was good enough to advance to the quarterfinals. After falling to Carl Albert State 25-14 to start the duals, the Trojans were victorious over Otero Junior College 42-13 and Cloud Community College 45-5. However, the most impressive win in pool play came over traditional national power and top-ranked ranked Clackamas Community College. Triton soundly defeated the four-time reigning national champions 42-14.

In the championship round, the Trojans edged Northwest College 27-25 in the quarterfinals and then took out North Idaho College 28-13 in the semifinals. Unfortunately, Triton lost to Iowa Central Community College in the championship duals.

"Overall we competed well despite missing some key wrestlers which hurt us in the finals," said Triton head coach Tim Duggan. "But our team fought hard. We will take the lessons we learned and continue to prepare for the NJCAA championships in March."
