For many years when the Triton College men's basketball team would visit Joliet Junior College, the game would have significant meaning in the conference race. But with the Wolves entering the matchup with just three wins, there was not much drama like many great Triton/JJC games of the past. The Trojans had very little trouble in dismantling the Wolves 100-54 Jan. 16 in Joliet.
The Trojans are 17-2 and a perfect 5-0 atop the
North Central Community College Conference (N4C) standings.
Triton gradually pulled away the first 10 minutes of the game to open a 20-point advantage and headed into halftime up 53-27. The Trojans rested many players as
Devin Blake and
Jalen Shaw did not suit up.
Najee Brown-Henderson sat most of the second half. Sophomore and Oklahoma signee
Alondes Williams only played 13 minutes, going scoreless on just four field goal attempts after his 34 point outburst Jan. 12 in his hometown against Milwaukee Area Tech.
So others had a chance to shine led by sophomore transfer
Ralph Cruz who registered 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes. Freshman
My'Quion Garrett had a season-high 17 points along with nine rebounds. Chicago State transfer
Jalen Stephens-Holmes finished with 17 points in his second game in a Triton uniform.
Terry Durham had another solid outing with 14 points and five rebounds. Point guard
Trevell Cunningham was involved on both ends of the floor with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Freshman Proviso East prouduct
Quinlan Bennett added 12 points for the Trojans.
Triton begins a stretch of six of the next seven games at home beginning Saturday, Jan. 19 vs. Madison College. Game time is 3:00 pm at the Robert M. Collins Center Gymnasium.
