One streak came to an end, but the most important one continued for the Triton College men's soccer team Sept. 26 at Milwaukee Area Technical College. The Trojans allowed a goal for the first time since their season opener, ending a seven-game stretch without yielding a goal. But in the end, Triton was able to pick-up their ninth consecutive result without a defeat in a 2-1 win against a pesky Stormer squad.
Â
The No. 19 ranked Trojans (7-0-2) had to rally after being down most of the game despite dominating the majority of the possession and shot opportunities. MATC took the early advantage with a goal in the 17
th minute.
Â
Triton, who outshot the Stormers 19-7 in the contest, got the equalizer on a
Jose Cordova (ITW Speer) header in the 57
th minute. Things remained leveled until the 87
th minute when MATC (1-3-2) was called for a handball in the box and the Trojans were awarded a penalty shot. Triton's leading scorer
Manuel Martinez (Larkin) would bury the penalty for his sixth goal of the season to give his team the decisive 2-1 advantage. Â Â
Â
The Trojans return home Wednesday night (Sept. 30) at 7 p.m. to entertain South Suburban College at the Jorndt Athletic Complex Multi-Purpose Field. Triton looks to snap a two-game losing streak to the Bulldogs, who have won four of the last six meetings overall.
