Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Trojans winning streak snapped at Rock Valley

The Triton College volleyball team saw their six-game winning streak come to an end Sept. 16 at Rock Valley College in straight sets, 17-25, 17-25, 8-25. The contest was the toughest test to date for the Trojans (7-3) who hung tough the first two sets against a Golden Eagle (12-3) squad that is typically one of the top teams in the region.

Unfortunately, Rock Valley was more efficient on their attack combined with their consistent serving pressure proved to be too much for Triton to overcome.

"We stayed competitive in the first two sets but ran out of steam in the end,'" said Trojans assistant coach Norman Kwong. "We will watch video, work on minimizing errors, and continue to play with heart, drive, and determination. How we bounce back from this loss will show how great of a team we are."

Top performers for Triton included:

Ulyana Sydorchuk (Leyden) - nine kills, with three hitting errors and .250 hitting percentage.
Ana Gonzalez (Proviso West) - nine digs, four kills, 23 serve receptions and a block.
April Salgado (Plano) - seven digs and a 1.64 serve/receive rating
Skyler DeSomer (Cary) - nine assists, nine digs, three kills and an ace.
Thea Tamondong (Niles West) - 10 assists and eight digs.

The Trojans are back home on Thursday (Sept. 17) to face Malcolm X College. Game time is 6 p.m. at the Jorndt Athletic Complex Gymnasium.
