Despite a challenging regular season, the Triton College baseball team did enough to pick up the No. 3 seed in the NJCAA Region 4 Division I Tournament.
The Trojans will travel to Crystal Lake on Wednesday (May 7) to take on the No. 2 seed and defending regional champions McHenry County College in the tournament opener.
The first set of postseason games will be played at the site of the higher seed before top rated South Suburban College hosts the final two days of the tournament Thursday (May 8) and Friday (May 9).
Three Tier 1 victories during the season, two vs. Elgin and a win vs. Black Hawk helped Triton gain significant points to qualify for one of the four playoff spots in Division I.
The Trojans lost their only regular season meeting to McHenry by an 8-5 final April 18 in Crystal Lake. The Scots Owen Nowak hit a three-run homer to break a 5-all tie in the bottom of the eighth to provide the difference in the contest.
Triton also played top seed South Suburban tough in their lone regular season meeting, falling 10-9 in the 12 innings to the Bulldogs April 2 at Symonds-Puckett Field.
