Triton College will host its signature wrestling event of the season, the 34th annual Art Kraft Memorial Tournament, on Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Jorndt Athletic Complex gymnasium (R-Building) in River Grove.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day as wrestlers from several of the top National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) programs across the country will compete.
The tournament is named in honor of the late Triton coach, who guided the Trojans to NJCAA national championships in 1977, 1983 and 1984. Kraft was a three-time NJCAA Coach of the Year during his 18 seasons at Triton from 1967 to 1985. He is also a member of the NJCAA, Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Since its inception more than three decades ago, the Art Kraft Memorial Tournament has become one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the country. This year's event will feature nearly 200 athletes representing teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.
As well regarded as the tournament is within the NJCAA, it holds special significance for the Triton wrestling team, as it marks the Trojans' only home event of the season. The Art Kraft Memorial has historically been one of the most successful meets during the season for the team.
Admission to the 34th annual Art Kraft Memorial Tournament is $5 for adults, children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Triton College students and employees who present a Triton ID will also be admitted free.
