Ava Connerty was the star that shined the brightest of the five Triton College Track and Field team members who qualified at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Championships May 9-11 in Utica, NY.

The freshman from Riverside-Brookfield High School earned All-American status with a second place showing in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Connerty ran a time of 16.90 seconds in the preliminary round before achieving a person best of 16.41 seconds in the finals.

She became the ninth female Track and Field All-American in school history.

"Ava was focused, locked in and ready," said Triton Head Coach Jason Guevarra. "We are very proud of the way she ended her season in becoming an All-American and she will be a great leader for our women's team next season."

Connerty also qualified in the women's 400-meter hurdles and finished ninth with a time of 1:17.38.

Despite not making it past the preliminary round, the Triton men's 4 X 100-meter relay team of Eli Amoh (Proviso West), Anthony Beacham (Oak Park), Juan Cano (Leyden) and Diego Gomez (ITW Speer) ran their best time of the season (44.59). The group was seeded 15th entering nationals and we able to place 10th in qualifying.

"Our relay team worked hard throughout the season," Guevarra said. "They were able to run their fastest time of the year at nationals and gave it their best."

Amoh also ran in the men's 400-meter hurdles at nationals and achieved a personal best of 59. 62 seconds.

Guevarra was able to get a taste at nationals of what he'll need to do to shape the program in 2025.

"I'm excited for next year already," he said. "The athletes this year were able to see progress within themselves and they all understand what is expected from us coaches. We had fantastic sophomores. But our freshman will need to put in the hard work and dedication to make it to nationals. We are looking forward to what the new additions to the team can bring to the table next season."
