Trojans three-point shooting overwhelms Wright

It was a long-range assault by the Triton College men's basketball team in their NJCAA Region 4 Division I quarterfinal game against Wright College March 5 at Highland Community College in Freeport.

The No. 7 in the nation Trojans blitz the Rams with 11 first-half three-point field goals to the set the tone in a 120-70 victory.

Triton (28-2), the tournament's top seed will play either Kankakee Community College (19-11) in a regional semifinal Thursday, March 7 at 5 p.m. back in Freeport. The Cavaliers defeated Kennedy-King 91-86 in their quarterfinal match-up.  The Trojans and Kankakee split their two regular season meetings, with Triton winning the most recent contest 101-85 Feb. 8 in River Grove.

The Trojans used an 18-3 run in the first half to take control of a tied game at five early on.

A pair of treys from William Scott and Dylan Williams gave Triton a 23-8 advantage with 12:24 to play in the first half.

Then Amar Augillard got in the act with two consecutive three's to put Triton up 29-12 en route to a commanding 62-35 halftime lead. The Trojans were 11-of-22 from downtown at the intermission.

Augillard led the Trojans with a game-high 31 points on 6-of-12 shooting from three-point range. He was one assist shy of a triple-double with 10 assists and 9 rebounds.

Triton had six different players make a three to finish 19-of-41 as a team for the game.

Scott had 17 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three. Dior Conners added 14 points.  AJ Dixon chipped in 11 points and nailed two triples. Antonio Lisenbee finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Terrell Wright had 15 points off the bench as the Trojans were able to rest many of their starters in the second half. Jio Garcia in the second half scored 13 points and was a perfect 3-for-3 from long distance.
