The Triton College men's basketball team showed the strength of being the No. 1 seed of the Region 4 Division I tournament in their 94-75 semifinal win over No. 4 seed Kankakee Community College in Freeport.
The Trojans (29-2) will face tournament host Highland Community College (22-10) for the Region 4 crown Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. back in Freeport. The No. 2 seeded Cougars rallied from 66-60 down with two minutes to go in defeating Sauk Valley Community College 72-68 in their regional semifinal.
Triton, who split their two regular season meetings with the Cavaliers created off their defense to build a 50-33 halftime lead. The Trojans blocked 12 Kankakee shot attempts and forced 11 first half turnovers to set up a number of transition baskets.
The Cavaliers (19-12) had no answers in the second half as a three-pointer immediately after the intermission by
Dylan Williams increased the Triton lead to 20 points. Williams finished with 10 points and six assists.
However, it was
Amar Augillard who led the Trojans scoring attack once again with 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field. He also had four assists including a kick-out in the corner to
William Scott, who buried the three to hold the Triton lead steady at 64-45 with 13 minutes to play. Scott would end up with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
AJ Dixon was also in double-figures with 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range.
For the game, the Trojans connected on 12 three's and finished with 19 total blocked shots.
Antonio Lisenbee led the block party with seven rejections.
Tolu Samuels had five blocks.
