It would had been easy for the Triton College women's basketball team to have a letdown in their regular season finale Saturday, Feb. 24 at Joliet Junior College.
The Trojans entered the game with the No. 1 seed in the Region 4 Division I tournament locked up. Also the team was coming off the emotional evening 4 nights earlier when guard
Trinity Barnes broke the Triton all-time career scoring record at Wright College.
However, the Trojans went all out in their final tune-up before they see either Highland Community College or Wright in a regional semifinal Wednesday, March 6 in Freeport, IL. Triton dominated the Wolves from start to finish in a 78-39 win to end the regular season with a 22-7 record.
The Trojans jumped out an 11-2 lead behind a pair of three's from Barnes and one from
Sasha Chambliss.Â
Triton would enjoy a 35-21 advantage at halftime and then broke the contest open by scoring the first 16 points of the third quarter. A
Jalyn Jimenez three followed a block shot by
Jordyn Coleman that led to her knocking down a 10-footer on the other end gave the Trojans a commanding 51-21 advantage with 5:37 remaining in the third quarter.
Barnes led all scorers with 29 points, including six from long-range. The sophomore added five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Coleman continues her big second half push with 16 points, a season-high 22 rebounds and seven blocked shots.
Jimenez played a solid game with 16 points and five rebounds. Chambliss added eight points and six assists.
For the game, the Trojans made 12 three-points as a team, shooting just under 39 percent.
The victory for Triton was their seventh straight at Joliet, a streak that began in 2016.
