The Triton College baseball team saved their best for last in both ends of a doubleheader April 12 at Symonds-Puckett Field against the College of DuPage. The Trojans scored in each of their final at-bats to sweep the Chaparrals 5-4 in eight innings in game one and 5-2 in the nightcap.
In the opener, DuPage (16-7) scored four unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Trojans rallied with three runs in their half of the fourth to tie the game.
The game remained tied from that point and went into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Triton would use a two-out rally to get the walk-off win.
Camden Karczewski got things started with a walk and would advance on to third on a
Nate Kremkow single to right. Then
Michael Kocen drove home Karczewski with a single to claim the first game for the Trojans.
Panos Rokkas held DuPage scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings to earn the victory on the mound for Triton.
In game two, Triton (12-13) scored a pair in the second inning to grab the early lead on a RBI single from
Jack Ryan and he later scored in the frame off a wild pitch.
The Chaparrals scored single tallies in the third and sixth innings to draw even at two apiece.
However, in the bottom of the sixth the Trojans responded. With one out,
Adam Pottinger was hit by a pitch followed by a Ryan single. This set the stage for
Matt Flaherty who drilled a three-run home run to straight away center to give the Trojans a 5-2 advantage.
Jacob Paymaster in relief recorded the last five outs, including three strikeouts to get the win.
Starting pitcher
Michael Moise gave Triton a strong outing despite the no-decision. Moise went 5.1 innings, allowing an earned run on four hits and nine strikeouts.
