A big first quarter set the pace for the Triton College women's basketball team as the Trojans picked up their fifth straight win, 86-66 Dec. 6 at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills.
Triton, now 8-2, has won the last four meetings over the Cyclones (5-5). In the addition, the Trojans are a perfect 4-0 away from the home to start the season.
For the second consecutive game, it was the outside shooting of
Linarys Burnett-Romero that sparked Triton. Burnett-Romero, who named Region 4 Division I Player of the Week Dec. 5, connected on her first five three-point attempts as the Trojans built a 30-11 lead late in the first quarter and had a 32-17 advantage heading into the second. The sophomore would finish with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from downtown.
Moraine Valley did their best to rally and were able to trim the deficit down to 8 points in the second quarter before Triton reestablished control to go into halftime up 52-39 and were not seriously threatened from that point.
Sophomore
Monraia Wilson led the Trojans with 26 points, six steals and six assists on 11-of-18 shooting from the field.
Dana Walcott had a strong showing with 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman
Trinity Barnes added 10 points for Triton.
The Trojans return home Thursday, Dec. 8 to host the reserves of Concordia University-Chicago. Game time is 5 p.m. If you cannot make it to the game, it will be streamed live on the
