Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball splits weekend home-stand

The Triton College women's basketball team concluded a busy three-game week with a home split in a 61-48 victory over Bay College (MI) Feb. 12 and a 85-69 loss Feb. 13 vs. Highland Community College.

The Trojans two wins this season are against the Norse from Escanaba, MI who made their second trip to River Grove this season.

The rematch was closer than the first meeting Jan. 23 which Triton won 77-53. However, the Trojans led wire-to-wire in allowing a season low points defensively and holding Bay to 25 percent shooting from the field (13-52).

An Aaliyah Dixon (9 points) three-pointer as time expired in the second quarter gave the Trojans a 25-17 lead at halftime. Triton grew the lead to double-figures outscoring Bay 18-13 in the third quarter to go up 45-30. The Norse would not get any closer than nine points in the final quarter.

Mariah Henry (Proviso West) led the Trojans with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Keiasha Rimmer off the bench finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Linarys Burnett-Romero (Milwaukee, WI) nailed three triples to account for her nine points.

The next day, Triton ran into a red-hot shooting Highland squad in the first of three meetings with the Cougars, including the Region 4 championship game in April.

Highland shot 61 percent from the field in the first half and broke the game open by outscoring the Trojans 28-13 in the second quarter to go up 44-20 at halftime.

The Cougars continued the torrid shooting pace in the third quarter to open up a 32-point margin before Triton battled all the way back to make an 11-point contest midway through the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately the mountain was to steep to climb as Highland scored enough baskets late to prevent a Trojan comeback.

Burnett-Romero led Triton with 14 points, including connecting on four three-pointers. Monraia Wilson (Hoffman Estates) added 13 points, three assists and two steals. Dionne Beals (Steinmetz) scored a season-high nine points. Freshman guard Breanna Duke (Milwaukee, WI) dished out a season-high seven assists.
