The Triton College women's basketball team had their best offensive showing of the season in their 89-68 win over the reserve team of NAIA Bethel University out of Mishawaka, IN Feb. 18 at the Robert M. Collins Center.
Six Trojans registered in double-figures as the team recorded 24 assists out of a total 37 made field goals.
Triton's defensive pressure also gave the Pilots fits as the Trojans forced 35 Bethel turnovers which led to several transition baskets.
The Pilots led briefly once the entire game, a 5-4 edge the opening three minutes of the contest. Then with the game tied at eight apiece, Triton went on a 13-0 run sparked by three consecutive three point field goals by
Linarys Burnett-Romero (Milwaukee, WI) to put the Trojans up for good at 21-8 midway through the opening quarter.
Burnett-Romero scored all 13 of her points in the first half as Triton maintained a 42-33 lead going into halftime.
Bethel would battle back to pull within 45-40 early in the third quarter before the Trojans ended the period on 24-8 run to go up 69-48 heading into the final stanza.
The Proviso East tandem of
Keiasha Rimmer and
Jaliyah Davis each solid showings off the bench. Rimmer led Triton with 14 points off the bench on six-of 11 shooting from the field. Davis finished with 11 points on five-of-seven shooting, including four assists and three steals.
Guard
Mariah Henry (Proviso West) had a terrific all-around game with 10 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals.
Monraia Wilson (Hoffman Estates) also filled the stat sheet with 10 points, eight steals, eight rebounds and six assists.
Aaliyah Dixon (Larkin) scored 10 points.
The Trojans easily could had two more in double-figures as freshman
Baryah Johnson (Milwaukee, WI) added nine points and sophomore
Dajha Cooper had eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
