Trojans Complete Perfect December

³The Triton College men's basketball team concluded a dominate month of December a perfect 6-0 after their 102-54 win over Oakton Community College Dec. 21 at the Robert M. Collins Center gymnasium.

In the six wins, the Trojans (12-2) average margin of victory was 48 points.

"Our goal was to go 6-0 in December after being 6-2 in November and I am proud of our guys for handling our business on the court and in the classroom," said Triton head coach John Clancy. "To win on the road at Marshalltown to start the month really propelled us."

In the final win of the month over Oakton, there was not much drama as the Trojans built a 52-26 halftime advantage.

For the game, Triton connected on 16 three-pointers as a team lead by Teonta McKeithen who was 7-of-10 from long range en route scoring a game-high 33 points.

"Teonta McKeithen was as good as anyone individually in the country in December and we got to play a lot of guys the first half of the season with all of our guys having outstanding moments," Clancy said.

Brandon Muntu also shined against the Owls with 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point land.

Now the focus will shift to the second half of the season for the Trojans who will face a more challenging final two months of the regular season.

"We know things amp up in a hurry in January for us as we host a good Sauk Valley team and then have national powerhouse Indian Hills coming to town followed by tough road game at nationally-ranked Southeastern (IA)," Clancy said.

At the halfway point of the season, Triton is ranked in ninth in the nation is scoring (94.0 ppg), 10th in scoring defense (60.4 ppg) and third in the NJCAA in assists, averaging 26 per contest.

"To be 12-2 is a good start and with close losses in which he had built leads against Three Rivers and No. 3 John A. Logan," Clancy added. "Hopefully, we learned lessons through those losses that will help us in the 2nd half of the year on our quest to make a run at the region and district titles."
