The Triton College men's basketball team passed an early test in their 75-59 win Nov. 17 at Sauk Valley Community College. The game was the first Region 4 Division I game of the season against a much-improved Sky Hawk squad.
However, the Trojans (4-1) packed their defense on the bus ride to Dixon as Triton doubled-up Sauk Valley the first 20 minutes to build a 38-19 halftime advantage.
Patrick Suemnick led the Trojans with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
Teonta McKeithen and
Cobie Montgomery scored 15 points apiece.
Christian Wells off the bench finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Trojans as a team shot 51 percent (27-53) from the field, including 47 percent (9-19) from three-point range. McKeithen was 5-of-8 from long distance. While Montgomery was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
"I was very pleased with our defensive effort against a good Sauk Valley team on road," said Triton head coach
John Clancy. "Holding them to 19 points in first half was impressive by our guys. They were leading the country in three-pointers made and we held them to six made for the game, including zero in the first half."
