After a year layoff due to the pandemic, the Triton College women's basketball program once again hosted its marquee event of the regular season, the Dan Hull Memorial Classic Nov. 12 and 13 at the Collins Center.
The classic, named in honor of the late former Triton head coach who led the Trojans to back-to-back national tournament appearances in 1993 and 94. Hull passed away at the age of 75 in March of 2018 after battling a debilitating pulmonary disease.
The Trojans went 1-1 for the weekend, losing 75-63 to defending NJCAA Division II national champions Lake Land College before bouncing back the next day with an impressive 103-73 victory over Concordia University-Chicago JV in front of several members of Dan Hull's family and former Triton players.
Triton jumped out to an early eight-point advantage over Lake Land before the Lakers outscored the Trojans 41-22 during the second and third quarters to enjoy a 58-43 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Triton (4-2) did their best to rally, pulling to within 7 points late in the final stanza, but 12 Lake Land three-pointers and only three missed free throws (17-20) were too much for the Trojans to overcome.
Linarys Burnett-Romero led Triton with 15 points.
Kendra Hatley finished with 13 points and three blocked shots.
In the win over Concordia JV, Burnett-Romero set the pace with a sizzling first quarter. The second year player from Milwaukee, WI scored 20 of the Trojans 23 points the opening 10 minutes, connecting on six three-pointers. For the game, she would end up with 23 points on seven-of-eight shooting from long range.
Maya White Eagle had 19 points, six rebounds, five steals and five assists.
Monraia Wilson contributed 15 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
Temya Russell socred just four points, but had eight rebounds, eight steals and seven assists.
Asia Flowers scored 13 points and
Keisy Alvarez added 12 points for Triton who finished the game with 31 assists as a team.
