The Triton College women's basketball team set the tone early in their NJCAA Region IV Division II Quarterfinal game Feb. 26 at the Collins versus Illinois Valley Community College. The Trojans used a 12-4 first quarter run to gain a lead they would never relinquish in a 96-75 triumph over the Eagles.
No. 4 seeded Triton advances to the regional semifinals for a playoff rematch from a year ago with top seed Bryant and Stratton College (WI) Saturday at Noon. The game will be at Illinois Valley is Oglesby, Il. The Bobcats rallied from a 17-point third quarter deficit to defeat the Trojans in last years semifinals 71-61. The teams did not play in regular season as Triton will enter the match-up with a 22-9 record. While Bryant and Stratton ranked No. 10 in NJCAA enters the contest 22-6.
Against the the fifth seed Eagles (9-16), the early run helped build a 28-16 advantage after the first 10 minutes. Triton led 52-34 at halftime and enjoyed it's largest margin at 25 in the 4th quarter before the starters were pulled.
North Central Community College Conference (N4C) MVP
Bethany Baldwin paced a well-balnced Triton attack with 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Davion Watt finished with 18 points and four assists.
Jaelah Crosby had 16 points and seven assists.
Zenobia Reeds added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman center
Dajha Cooper scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.
For the game, the Trojans finished with 24 assists to just six turnovers.
