There have been several competitive women's basketball games the last four seasons between Triton and Joliet Junior College. Of the last nine meetings, all were won by the visiting team. That trend changed Jan. 15 as the Trojans won an exciting 76-70 contest over the Wolves in overtime at the Collins Center.
Triton (12-6, 2-1, N4C) led most of regulation, leading the Wolves by as many as 12 points. However, the Trojan offense went cold in the 4th quarter as Joliet (7-14, 2-3, N4C) outscored 14-8 to force the extra session.
In overtime, Triton jumped out of the gate fast, scoring seven points the first 90 seconds to go up 72-65 on a driving layup by
Zenobia Reeds, a
Jaelah Crosby three-pointer and a baseline floater from
Bethany Baldwin. Joliet would answer with the next five points to pull within 72-70 with 46 seconds left. But the Trojans made a couple of key defensive stops to hold off the Wolves attempt to rally, scoring the final four points on a pair of free throws and wide-open
Dajha Cooper layup to seal the victory.
Baldwin led Triton in scoring with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Crosby had a strong performance with 21 points, including five of 10 shooting three-point range and 10 rebounds.
Davion Watt finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Cooper scored 10 points along with eight boards.
