Women’s Basketball Wins for First Time at Madison

Baldwin Earns Region IV Division II Player of the Week

There haven't been many pleasant experiences for the Triton College women's basketball team when they've made their yearly trip to Madison College since the Wolfpack joined the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) the 2009-10 season.

However, the Trojans saved their best for last in likely their final trip to Madison in the immediate future with the program going independent next season. Triton played four complete quarters of basketball as they only trailed just once in a 68-49 road win Jan. 18.

The victory for the Trojans was their first ever at Madison after losing in their previous 10 visits.

Triton (13-6, 4-1, N4C) started out strong to build a 10-2 lead four minutes into the contest after a Dajha Cooper bucket. Madison (11-7, 2-3, N4C) would rally to take their only lead of the day at 22-21 with 6:45 to go in the 2nd quarter before the Trojans defense ranked 25th nationally went into lockdown mode.

The WolfPack went the final five minutes of the quarter without a field goal as Triton ended the half on a 16-3 run to go into halftime up 37-25 and were never challenged from the point.

The Trojans continued to put the pressure on Madison with a 9-2 run to open the third quarter capped by a Bethany Baldwin jumper to push the lead to 19 points at 46-27 with 5:50 remaining.

Triton at one point in the fourth quarter enjoyed as big of a margin as 25 points.

Baldwin led the way in earning NJCAA Region IV Division II player of the week honors. The sophomore from Watersmeet, Mich. blistered Madison with 27 points on 11-of 18 shooting from the field (61%). She also added nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Sophomore guard Davion Watt had a solid all-around game for the Trojans. Watt tallied 13 points with seven rebounds along with five steals and five assists.

Cooper ended up with 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore Jaelah Crosby scored 10 points and added six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

For the game, Triton shot 30-of-66 from the field (45%) and forced 28 WolfPack turnovers which led to 23 points.
