A mark of a good team is how they respond after a difficult loss. The Triton College men's soccer team faced that challenge Sept. 4 when they hosted Madison College. The Trojans entered the match coming off of a tough home defeat Aug. 31 vs. Harper College. However, the Trojans bounced back with their most complete game of the season behind a pair of goals from
Christopher Modzejewski to blank the WolfPack 2-0.
Triton improves their record to 4-1 on the season.
"The guys could have easily kept their heads downs after the Harper game, but they regrouped and played their best of the season," said head coach
Piotr Sliwa. "We were sound in all aspects of the game. I was happy to see our first shutout of the year. Plus we played physical and fast soccer."
Modzejewski, a sophomore out of St. Patrick High School led the charge for the Trojans. He put Triton on the board in the 36
th minute when he broke free and lofted a shot from 25-yards out over the head of the drawn out Madison goalkeeper that bounced into the back of the net. He would later score on a penalty kick in the 54
th minute to give the Trojans some insurance.
"Chris is a workhorse," Sliwa said. "He played well for us last year and should have scored more goals as he didn't have the help up front he needed. Now this year, he has that help and is developing into a great player."
The victory was a milestone for Sliwa as he has tied Tom Secco for most wins in Triton men's soccer history with 89. Sliwa's first chance to break the record comes Friday when the Trojans visit Illinois Valley Community College. Game time is 4 p.m.
