The Triton College men's soccer program has built a proud tradition since its inception in 1969 with 14 regional championships and eight national tournament appearances. During this span there have been 15 head coaches who have contributed to recording over 400 wins. Now, current head coach
Piotr Sliwa stands alone as the winningest head coach in Triton men's soccer history. Sliwa surpassed Tom Secco with his 90
th career victory in the Trojans 2-0 shutout at Illinois Valley Community College Sept. 6.
"It's a great record, but it's not only my achievement," Sliwa said. "It's all the players who have been a part of the program over the last eight years. We've had a lot of good teams and those individuals deserve more credit than me."
The players on Sliwa's 2019 Triton team made sure early there would be little doubt that he would break the record against the Eagles. A pair of Lane Tech graduates helped put the Trojans (5-1) on the board in the 11
th minute when
Fernando Alvarado registered his second goal of the year off an assist from
Arnel Sinanagic.
Christopher Modzejewski (St. Patrick) added Triton's second tally from a
Marcin Kieta (Lane Tech) assist in the 22
nd minute.
Freshman goalkeeper
Piotr Pyz (Conant) earned his second straight shutout with five saves for the Trojans.
"I was really happy with our performance," Sliwa said. "It's a real hard field (at IVCC) for us to play on and changes our entire game plan. You can easily let a goal in especially on a field that takes many bad bounces. So to get a shutout for the second game in a row was impressive. We played well defensively and moved the ball well. It was good to see us build off our win versus Madison."
