The Triton College volleyball team knew coming into their game Oct. 8 at Prairie State College that the outcome would likely determine their postseason fate. With just the top eight teams in the district eligible for the playoffs and the Trojans on the bubble, they put together a solid road performance in sweeping the Pioneers in three sets: 25-17, 25-10, and 25-20. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak and likely locked up a playoff spot for Triton now 6-15 this season.
"We were aware of the possible consequences of winning or losing," said Trojans head coach
Thomas Malesky. "We knew that if we won, we were in the playoffs and if we lose would not be in the playoffs. So it was good to see us come out strong and we were more active on defense especially in the second set. Despite what the game meant for the playoffs, it was good to just get back into the win column."
Leah Rettke helped set the table for the Triton offense with 22 assists. The freshman from Riverside-Brookfield added 12 digs.
Sumeja Hodzic (Proviso East) had 11 kills.
Georgia Becker (Proviso West) added 12 digs and five kills.
Frankie Annunzio (Ridgewood) finished with 19 digs for the Trojans.
