In 2020, the Triton College men's soccer program will be moving from NJCAA Division III status up to Division II. So this season is likely the Trojans' swan song in the prominently Division III
North Central Community College Conference (N4C). Triton has dominated the league over the past decade and will go out on top one final time. The Trojans clinched their third consecutive N4C crown with a 4-1 victory over Joliet Junior College Oct. 9 in River Grove.
Triton wrapped up the regular season 15-1 overall, 9-1 in the N4C. The Trojans are ranked
No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll released Oct. 14 and now have their sights set on winning the Region IV title. Triton will open the playoffs as the top seed and will host No. 8 seeded Milwaukee Tech in a regional quarterfinal Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the East Campus Athletic Complex multi-purpose field.
The Trojans easily won both regular season meetings against the Stormers by a combined score of 21-1.
"Winning the conference and doing so for the third year in a row was one of our goals we set at the start of the season," said Trojans head coach
Piotr Sliwa, who also picked up his 100
th career win at Triton. "Now we've accomplished that, the fun is now over and its one loss and you're out."
Against the Wolves, Triton didn't waste any time with a pair of goals in the first four minutes from
Michal Szaflarski (Oak Lawn) and
Isreal Carranza (Morton). Joliet scored just before halftime to pull within a goal.
However, the Trojans grabbed control in the second half as leading scorer
Christopher Modzejewski (St. Patrick) tallied his team-leading 18
th goal of the year in the 58
th minute. Modzejewski will enter the postseason No. 4 in the nation in both goals scored and total points.
Jakub Knurek (York) would score six minutes later to give Triton their 4-1 cushion. Both second half goals were assisted by
Fernando Alvarado (Lane Tech).
Saturday's playoff game will also be streamed live on the
Triton College YouTube channel.
