The road to winning the North Central Central Community College Conference (N4C) has gone through River Grove in recent years. The Triton College men's basketball team entered conference play winning 42 of their last 43 N4C games and got 2019 off to a flying start with a pair of easy conference wins. The Trojans knocked off College of DuPage 99-56 at the Robert M. Collins Center Jan. 3 and then trounced Harper College 106-46 Jan. 5 in Palatine.
Triton has won five straight games to up their mark to 14-2 on the season.
Against COD, Triton was challenged the first seven minutes, trailing by seven points. Then the Trojans athleticism and pressuring defense was too much for the visitors from Glen Ellyn to handle as Triton opened up a 42-26 halftime lead. Triton then came out of halftime fast to open up a 25 point advantage three minutes into the 2nd half en route to the victory.
Seven Trojans scored in double-figures led by freshman center
Jalen Shaw with 18 points and nine rebounds. Oklahoma bound sophomore
Alondes Williams tallied 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.
My'Quion Garrett finished 15 points,
Terry Durham had a strong all-around game with 13 points, 15 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Devin Blake had 12 points.
Najee Brown-Henderson and
Trevell Cunningham each chipped in 10 points for Triton.
Then two days later, the Trojans hardly broke a sweat at Harper. Triton led wire-to-wire, using a 24-4 start the first nine minutes and cruised the rest of the way.
Durham led a balanced Trojans attack with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Williams had 16 points and seven assists. Brown-Henderson, Garrett and Shaw each scored 13 points, Cunningham added 12 points and Blake finished with 10 points.
Triton for the game shot 53 percent from the field (46-87) and out rebounded the Hawks 55-22.
