Resilient Trojans earn draw at Lincoln Land

9/3/2026 4:31:00 PM

Thanks to the extreme heat, the Triton College women's soccer team got to do a first in program history, that's play a regular season match indoors. The Trojans traveled down to Springfield Sept. 2 and had their road game with the Loggers moved to the climate controlled Scheel's Dome. Triton showed their continued improvement to leave the state capitol with a 1-1 draw against a quality Region 24 opponent.

The Trojans (3-0-1) had to deal with their share of adversity. After giving up a quick goal the first three minutes of the contest, Triton then had to play the final 60 minutes of the match with 10 players.

Down a player, the Trojans were still able to attack on the offensive end as Citlali Lopez (Steinmetz) scored the game-tying goal in the 80th minute off an assist from Sophie Toledo (Elmwood Park).

Ashley Mancera (Niles North) had a solid game in goal for Triton after the early tally from Lincoln Land (1-2-1) to finish with seven saves.

"Lincoln Land is a very good program and credit our team for going on the road and a to get a result," said head coach Francisco Estrada. "I thought being down a player most of game, the team was resilient and played hard, our starters along with our bench. We were able make a push, get the late equalizer and had some chances to win the game."

The Trojans will play another Region 24 opponent, hosting Kaskaskia College Saturday (Sept. 5) at the Jorndt Athletic Complex Multi-Purpose Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
