Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Trojans lose 4-set battle to Elmhurst JV

The Triton College volleyball team began a stretch of seven consecutive games away from home on Sept. 21, making the short drive to Elmhurst to take on the Elmhurst University reserve squad. The Trojans fought hard splitting the first two sets before the Blue Jays took control to win the match, 26-24, 29-31, 7-25, 16-25.

The Trojans (8-4) rallied from 24-20 down in set one, scoring the final six points to stun Elmhurst. Ana Gonzalez (Proviso West) reeled off the final five points on her serve combined with blocks by Kaya Podtburg (Eaton, CO) up front during the last pair of points to seal the set.

Triton nearly pulled the rabbit out of the hat again in the second set. The Trojans rallied from deficits of 22-16 and 24-20 to force deuces. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays were able to sneak away with the marathon set and carried over that momentum the rest of the match.

Top performers for Triton included:

Ulyana Sydorchuk - seven kills, with three errors and three blocks.
Ana Gonzalez - seven kills and 22 serve receptions.
Kaya Podtburg - five assisted blocks, a solo block, two kills and two digs.
Skyler DeSomer - 13 Assists, three kills and two blocks.
April Salgado- 29 serve receptions with only 2 errors, 17 digs and two aces.

The road swing continues when the Trojans travel up to Wisconsin Sept. 23 to face No. 16 ranked Madison College. Game time is 6 p.m.
