Trojans sweep Moraine Valley Tri-Match

Triton runs winning streak to 6 games

The Triton College volleyball team turned in a commanding performance Saturday (Sept. 12) in Palos Hills at the Moraine Valley Community College Tri-Match, sweeping both Joliet Junior College and the host Cyclones to finish the day a perfect 6–0 in sets. The Trojans defeated Joliet 25–22, 25–21, 25–18 before completing the afternoon with a 25–10, 25–21, 25–16 victory over Moraine Valley.

Triton (7-2) has won six games in a row and the victory over Joliet snapped a 14-game skid to the Wolves dating back to matches played since 2016 when the two schools were former conferences in the dissolved N4C.

Triton's offense was led by Ulyana Sydorchuk (Leyden) and Ana Gonzalez (Proviso West). Sydorchuk was remarkably efficient throughout the day, highlighted by 12 kills and a .579 hitting percentage against Moraine Valley, while Gonzalez provided consistent high-volume production in both victories. The Trojans also received important contributions from Kaya Podtburg (11 kills, .348 hitting percentage), Carole Akers (9 kills, .350 hitting percentage) and setters Skyler DeSomer and Thea Tamondong who combined for 51 assists, and 29 digs.

Triton saved one of its strongest serving performances for Moraine Valley, registering 15 aces while serving 93.2 percent. DeSomer led the way with four aces while also contributing 13 assists and 11 digs. April Salgado (Plano) anchored the back row with 14 digs in each match.

The Trojans will be back on the road Tuesday (Sept. 15) in Rockford to face their toughest test thus far in 12-3 Rock Valley College.
