There was not much drama for the Triton College women's basketball team in their NJCAA Region 4 Division I quarterfinal game March 3 at the Jorndt Athletic Complex gymnasium against Harry S. Truman College.
The No. 2 seeded Trojans jumped out to a 31-9 lead after one quarter and never looked back in an 81-29 disposing of the No. 7 seeded Falcons. The victory was the tenth in a row for Triton who now improves to 26-4 on the season.
The Trojans will face long-time Region 4 rival, Malcolm X College in a regional semifinal Wednesday night (March 5) at 7 p.m. back at the Jorndt Athletic Complex gymnasium. The No. 3 seeded Hawks topped Daley College 76-47 in their quarterfinal meeting in Chicago.
Triton had great balance with five players in double-figures led by NCAA Division I prospect
Jordyn Coleman. The sophomore center registered 17 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots.
Guards
Aliana Brown and
Jada Branch each finished with 16 points and six assists.
Jazzmine Smith and
Tranika Randolph added 10 points apiece in the winning effort for the Trojans.
For the game, Triton recorded 25 assists on 29 made field goals.
The task will get tougher for Triton as they will face Malcolm X who ended the Trojans season in last season's Region 4 championship game.
This season, Triton won both regular season meetings with the Hawks (13-12). The Trojans were victorious in the most recent meeting 68-62 February 20 in Chicago. On December 12, Triton won in River Grove by a 73-52 final.
Triton is the site of the Region 4 Division I women's basketball tournament. Top seeded Olive-Harvey College will play No. 4 seed Kennedy-King College in the first semifinal at 5 p.m.
Both games Wednesday will stream live on the
Triton College Athletic HUDL page. Marshall Harris, co-host of "Bernstein & Harris" on 670 The Score will call both semifinal games. Harris will be joined by special guest analyst, Delwyn Jones, the head women's basketball coach at Moraine Valley Community College.
