At times it was not easy, but the Triton College men's basketball team did enough to eventually put away Daley College 79-59 Nov. 11 in Chicago.
The Trojans (3-2) fell out of the NJCAA Division I top 25 after a pair of losses at the Midwest JUCO Challenge this past weekend in Iowa. But the team has dealt with its share of early season injuries and was as close to full strength as they've been with two additional players back in the rotation against the Bulldogs.
It appeared Triton would cruise, jumping out to a 14-0 lead seven minutes into the game. However, Daley (0-4) would respond with a 7-0 run to cut the lead in half. The Trojans would then go on a 14-7 spurt capped by a
Saadiq Moore layup to build the advantage back to 28-14 with 6:20 left in the first half.
Still the Bulldogs would not go down easily, trimming the deficit to 36-25 at halftime. Daley would get as close as 36-29 three minutes into the second half before the Trojans reestablished control to close the game out.
Moore led Triton with 19 points and seven rebounds. He was also a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line.
Guard
Papa Kounta finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Matt Sullivan had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Miles Mitchell added 11 points and six rebounds for the Trojans.
Triton is back in action on Saturday (Nov. 15) when they host No. 4 nationally ranked Vincennes University (IN) at the Jorndt Athletic Complex gymnasium for a 3:00 p.m. tip. It will be the first time ever that Vincennes will play the Trojans in River Grove.
