Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball starts strong and holds off Moraine late

Health has plagued the Triton College women's basketball team the first month of the season. Entering their home contest Dec. 5 against Moraine Valley Community College, the Trojans have had all their available players in uniform the same game only one time through nine games.

However, all 10 Triton players were back against the Cyclones to help give the Trojans some renewed energy and snap a three-game losing streak in grinding out a 65-58 win.

The victory got the Trojans back to level ground at 5-5 overall.

Triton trailed only once at 9-6 with 3:30 remaining in the opening quarter before closing the period on a 14-0 run and never relinquished the lead from that point.

Sophomore guard Trinity Barnes sparked the spurt for the Trojans, scoring nine of her team-high 18 points during the stretch, including sinking a pair of shots from long range. Barnes would add seven assists, five rebounds and a blocked shot.

Things appeared to be in cruise control for Triton who built the lead as big as 22 points in the second half. But the visitors from Palos Hills made the Trojans sweat a bit late by mounting a furious late comeback to pull within four points with under two minutes to go before the Trojans were finally able to put matters away.

Freshman center Jordyn Coleman finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Triton. Aliana Brown added seven points and five rebounds. Mariah Robinson had seven points and seven rebounds. Lauryn Hunt chipped in five points and 10 rebounds.
