Winning games on the road is not easy. Especially in the Malcolm X College gym where the games tend to be more physical and the unexpected usually happens.
The Triton College women's basketball team almost fell victim Jan. 26 in Chicago.
The Trojans jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead in their Region 4 Division I showdown against the Hawks. Things looked even better in the third quarter as Triton dominated play to build a 51-29 advantage.
However, Malcolm X rallied back to force overtime and it took a
Monraia Wilson jumper in the closing seconds of the extra session to break a 70-all tie to help give Triton a 73-70 victory.
The win upped the Trojans mark to 16-5 overall and most importantly 4-0 in Region 4 Division I play. Triton remains in control of the one seed for the Region 4 Tournament with two regional DI games remaining.
Trinity Barnes led the Triton scoring with 24 points, including shooting 10-of-14 from the charity stripe.
Linarys Burnett-Romero had 17 points on five three's along with seven rebounds.
Wilson finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
Queen Baker added eight points and nine rebounds for the Trojans.
