For the Triton College women's basketball team, their game Jan. 17 at Milwaukee Tech felt more like it was Triton North instead of a traditional road game. The contest marked the return of Milwaukee native and Trojan sophomore guard
Linarys Burnett-Romero.
Dozens packed the gym to cheer on Burnett-Romero and her Trojan teammates and the partisan Triton crowd enjoyed the show. Burnett-Romero scored a team-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field as Triton rolled to an 89-56 victory to improve their overall mark to 14-5.
With Milwaukee Tech's (10-8) primary focus on stopping Burnett-Romero from the outside, the Trojans jumped out to a quick 17-7 lead thanks to the early sharp shooting of
Jalyn Jimenez. The freshman from Marshall drilled her first three shots from long range the opening quarter and finished the night with 15 points on 4-for-8 shooting from downtown.
Triton opened the advantage up to 32-16 in the second quarter before foul trouble helped Milwaukee stay close as the Trojans lead was trimmed to 37-30 at the intermission.
However, the second half was all Triton, outscoring Milwaukee Tech 52-26 including ending the game on a 17-1 run capped off by back-to-back three's from Burnett-Romero that put her home town crowd in a frenzy.
Trinity Barnes had another solid performance with 19 point and seven rebounds.
Dana Walcott in her return to the lineup added 14 points and 8 boards.
Queen Baker was also in double-figures with 10 points
"It was great for Linarys to get the chance to play and play well in front of her family and friends," said assistant coach
Tim McKinney. "I'm glad she was able to experience that. But what I loved the most was the way we played for one another and supported each other. We're starting to have fun and need to carry that over in some the important regional games we have coming up."
