Trojans sweep Olive-Harvey

The Triton College baseball team has won six out their last eight games following a doubleheader sweep by identical 10-0 scores Wednesday against Olive-Harvey College at Symonds-Puckett Field.

The Trojans are within a game of the .500 mark with an overall mark of 10-11.

In a pair of games played in gusts up to 30 mph, the Triton bats went to work with 24 total hits, including five home runs and five triples on the afternoon.

The Trojans took control of a scoreless game one with a five-run fourth inning. A Michael Kocen sacrifice fly brought home Matt Flaherty who led-off the frame off with a double. However, the big blow came later in the inning with the bases loaded and two outs, Adam Pottinger hit a rocket off the 375 sign in right centerfield to clear the bases for a three-run triple to give Triton a 4-0 advantage. Noah Jouras would follow with another triple to make it 5-0.

Flaherty homered to dead center his next at-bat in the fifth inning to increase the Trojans lead to 6-0.

Triton would end matters via the run-rule in the sixth with four more runs started by a Camdem Karczewski home run to left field. Pottinger doubled and then came consecutive triples from Jouas and Frank Magnelli before a Flaherty bloop hit misplayed in the breeze by Olive-Harvey finished the first game.

Dax Meyer claimed the win on the mound for the Trojans, going six innings, allowing five hits and striking out five.

Triton jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning of game two. Kocen set the tone for the Trojans with a lead-off home run. Jerimiah Cangelosi would cap the frame with a two-run blast to right-center.

Jack Ryan hit a solo shot during a three-run fourth which the Trojans went up 10-0 to set up ending the contest in the top of the fifth.

Jordan Johann got the shutout victory allowing five hits including getting out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning.
