The Triton College women's basketball team despite entering their contest Feb. 4 in Mishawaka, Ind. against the reserve squad of Bethel University with a three-game winning streak, the Trojans have not played their best basketball in those victories.
However, after an up and down first quarter which saw Triton enjoy a 28-25 advantage, the Trojans were able to play more a complete game to pull away from the Pilots in a 93-68 win.
Triton, 16-4 overall, improved their road record to 10-1 away from River Grove.
The Trojans broke things open in third quarter as Bethel pulled within 51-49 three minutes into the period before Triton ended the stanza on a 16-0 run and were never challenge from that point.
Triton had to overcome the Pilots barrage of three-point field goal attempted as Bethel connected on 13 from long range. But as the game progressed, the Pilots wore down and several of their three-point shots came up short in the second half.
Bethel had no answer for the Trojans balance on offense. Triton was able to drive to the basket at will and was rewarded by shooting 22-of-28 from the free throw line.
The Trojans largest lead was 30 points (85-55) midway through the fourth quarter.
Triton had five players in double-figures led by
Maya White Eagle with 23 points.
Kendra Hatley scored 18 points.
Monraia Wilson finished with 16 points.
Linarys Burnett-Romero had 14 points and
Keisy Alvarez added 12 points.
The Trojans have six games remaining in the regular season and will begin a four-game home stand Tuesday, Feb. 8 against Malcolm X College. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
