Triton College women's basketball player
Linarys Burnett-Romero in her two years in a Trojan uniform has become the best three-point shooter in the Region 4. The stats do not lie as the sophomore from Milwaukee, WI is averaging a touch under 40 percent from long range to
lead all divisions in the region in three-point shooting percentage.
However, one of the individual goals for Burnett-Romero that she was attempting to achieve since last season finally came to fruition as she buried nine trey's to break the Triton single-game record for most three's made in the Trojans 77-55 win over Bay College Feb. 12 in River Grove.
The previous mark was eight by Taft High School alum Marie Chew during the 2014-15 season against Wright College.
"Breaking the record is something I've wanted to do since almost do last year and the flow of the game against Bay put me in position to do that," Burnett-Romero said. "It feels good to know I broke it and that I'll be the new name in the record books for most three's made in a game in Triton history."
"I'm extremely proud of Linarys," said Triton head coach
Marques Hatch. "She has been a great player for our program and is an even better person. She came close to breaking the record last year and I'm glad she got it this year."
Burnett-Romero's sharp shooting with three early triples set the tone in Triton's 20
th win of the season as the Trojans jumped out a 15-0 lead four minutes into the contest and the visitors from Escanaba, Mich. never threatened.
Triton (20-3) led by as many as 29 points late in the third quarter.
Burnett-Romero hit the record-breaking three off a transition feed from
Destine Lovett (Proviso East) from the right wing all-net with 3:51 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Maya White Eagle (Baraboo, WI) finished with 15 points. Sophomore guard
Monraia Wilson (Hoffman Estates) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
