The Triton College men's basketball team passed their first Region 4 Division I test of the new season in a 102-48 victory over Kennedy-King College Nov. 8 at the Collins Center.
The Trojans (3-1) for most of the first half could not shake off the Statesmen (0-3) who hung tough to trail 39-25 late in the first half. Then Triton got going the final two minutes to end the opening half on an 8-0 run to go up 47-25 at the intermission.
The second half was all Trojans. Triton came out the first five minutes with a 14-2 spurt capped by a
Brandon Muntu trey to make it 61-27. Muntu, who signed officially signed with Western Michigan, would later score on consecutive steals and layups as the Trojans pushed the advantage to 67-30 with just under 12 minutes remaining.
Quenton Flood was one of seven Triton players in double-figures with 18 points along with nine rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
Ethan Pickett, who has signed officially with UIC, registered 14 points and six assists on 6-of-7 shooting from the field.
Devon Barnes scored 14 points, including knocking four three-pointers.
Jamal Winston and Muntu each finished with 12 points.
Didier Maleng and DePaul signee
Keyondre Young added 10 points apiece for the Trojans.
"Coach Farrow is doing really good job with Kennedy-King they were organized and outplayed us for a six minute stretch in first half," said Triton head coach
John Clancy.Â
"I think our depth eventually wore them down and I was pleased with our close to the first half and how we played most of second half," Clancy added. "Having seven guys in double-figures speaks to our depth but we need to continue to be better on the glass and on the defensive side of ball with two big games this weekend with State Fair and Moberly at Three Rivers."Â
