Men's Basketball runs away from Aurora JV to open the new season

IThe Triton College men's basketball team got the 2022-23 season off to a good note with an impressive 113-65 win over the JV squad from Aurora University Nov. 1 at Robert Collins Center.

The Trojans led wire-to wire, taking a 59-33 into halftime as the comfortable advantage gave head coach John Clancy a chance to see his everyone dressed get some minutes.

Six Triton players were in double-figures led by Devon Barnes, who scored 19 points off the bench, including a shooting 5-for-8 from long distance.

DePaul commit Keyondre Young had a solid debut in a Trojans uniform with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Quenton Flood finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.

BJ Marable and Western Michigan commit Brandon Muntu scored 12 points apiece. Jamal Winston added 10 points for Triton.

The game also marked the return of former Triton head coach Steve Christiansen who is now the head coach of Aurora's varsity team. Christiansen, who was in the crowd watching, coached the Trojans for 17 seasons from 2004-2021 compiling an overall record 443-111. Christiansen, the winningest coach in program history coached the Trojans 2018 NJCAA Division II National Championship.

"I really appreciate Steve, his staff and the Aurora JV team for taking this game on short notice," Clancy said. "I was pleased with how we shared the basketball and played extremely unselfish basketball. We had good energy on the floor and on the bench throughout the game."
