Not playing a full-regulation match since Sept. 17 has been a challenge for the Triton College women's soccer team. The team has had 5-games canceled on them this season and only played one-half in a 10-0 win Oct. 1 at Illinois Valley Community College.
The Trojans had to shake off some rust but did enough to get by College of DuPage 2-0 Oct. 3 in River Grove.
Triton remains perfect on the season with a 6-0 record, including winning five of their six games by shutout.
The Trojans got on the board six minutes into the match when
Alexa Herrera scored on a clean strike straightaway from 25 yards out.
Triton had numerous chances to add to the lead as DuPage hung tough. The Chaparrals (2-3-1) had a few decent scoring chances but Trojans goalkeeper
Juliana Joaquin denied DuPage each time.
Then the Trojans added some late insurance as
America Calvario scored on a breakaway attempt with 10 minutes to play in regulation.
"We're happy with the result," said Triton head coach
Piotr Sliwa. "We've struggled offensively, but it's really hard to get any rhythm due to the lack of games we've played. We have gone two weeks without a game twice. It will be a building process for us to get our rhythm back as we have a lot games heading into the playoffs and know we will get better."
