The race to secure the top spot in the Region 4 Midwest District A standings for the Triton College men's soccer team will not be easy down the stretch as the Trojans play their most difficult part of the schedule to close out the regular season.
The five game stretch that includes key regional games with South Suburban College and Waubonsee Community College started Oct. 1 with a road contest against a much-improved Illinois Valley Community College squad.
The Eagles entered the contest atop the District A standing in points over Triton and gave the Trojans all they could handle.
However,
Maciej Rzadkosz buried the game-winning goal early in the second overtime period to give Triton a dramatic 3-2 win and most importantly put Triton back in first place in the district.
The Trojans, 12-1 overall reentered the NJCAA Division II poll released Oct. 20, ranked No. 20.
Triton fell behind 1-0 before
Paul Urban scored the equalizer the 18
th minute.
The game remained tied at halftime before
Gabriel Schiavoni gave the Trojans a 2-1 advantage the 56
th minute off an assist from
Luis Aviles. However, IVCC drew even the 78
th minute leading up to the Rzadkosz heroics in the second overtime.
