The home dominance of the Triton College baseball team continued March 28 against Oakton Community College. The Trojans rallied from an 11-7 deficit to force extra innings. Then
Mike Vaca (Bartlett) hit a walk-off home run into the breeze blowing out towards right field at Symonds-Puckett Field to give Triton a dramatic 12-11 win in 10 innings.
The Trojans trailed 11-7 after the Owls put seven runs in the top half of the fifth. However between
Seth Quick (Montini Catholic) and
Jerimiah Cangelosi (Pataskala, OH) Oakton was shut down the rest of the day.
Triton scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth inning to tie the game.
Matt Flaherty (Lake Zurich) muscled a solo home run against the wind just over the fence in left center to even matter up.
In extra innings Cangelosi pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the tenth to keep things tied.
Then in the bottom Vaca crushed a 3-1 pitch that got enough of the winds to carry over the right field fence to spark a massive celebration as he crossed home plate.
Michael Kocen (Warren Township) also homered and was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
