The Triton College women's basketball team got some sweet redemption when they hosted South Suburban College March 20 at the Collins Center.
The Trojans had what head coach
Marques Hatch called the teams' worse defeat of the year when Triton let a 16-point lead slip away in a 59-58 loss to the Bulldogs when the teams met for the first time Feb. 4 in South Holland.
However, the rematch was not a contest as Trojans cruised to an 81-41 win.
Triton (7-10) broke matters open using a 15-0 run in the first quarter to break an 8-all tie.
Linarys Burnett-Romero (Milwaukee, WI) got things started with a three from the left wing off a skip pass by
Mariah Henry (Proviso West). Then Henry came back with a tear-drop runner to make it 13-8 Trojans.
Then Burnett-Romero and Henry connected on consecutive three pointers before a
Brianna Duke (Milwaukee, WI) steal led and Henry bucket to give Triton a 23-8 advantage.
The Trojans never looked backed as they took a 41-17 lead into halftime and 65-27 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Henry led the way with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. The sophomore guard added five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Burnett-Romero finished with 21 points all coming off of seven triples. The freshman fell one three-pointer short of the single-game Triton record with is eight done by Marie Chew in 2015 against Wright College.
Monraia Wilson (Hoffman Estates) played well on both of sides of the floor with 14 points, eight steals and seven assists.
