The Triton College men's basketball team behind a 31-point effort by
DJ Patrick dominated Morton College 89-54 Feb. 2 in Cicero.
The game was close for the first 15 minutes tied at 18 before Patrick got going with consecutive three pointers to give the Trojans a lead they would not relinquish. Triton ended the half on a 22-5 run to go into halftime up 40-23.
The Trojans then slammed the door the first four minutes of the second half with a 15-0 spurt capped by transition layup by Patrick from
Morgan Taylor (Marist) to give Triton a commanding 55-23 advantage.
Patrick had a sensational shooting night, finishing 12-of-17 from field including seven-of-11 from long distance. The freshman from Atlanta added five rebounds and two steals.
Sophomore transfer
Kejuan Clements (Simeon) was the only other Trojan in double-figures with 17 points on seven-of-11 shooting from the field.
As a team, Triton shot 52 percent from the field (30-58) and displayed excellent ball movement with 20 assists.
"This early in the season I was happy to be able to execute for an extended period of time against a well-coached Morton team," said Triton head coach
Steve Christiansen. "Both Glen (Heffernan) and Bob (Roumbus) have been friends of mine for years. So although we won this one tonight I know Morton College has many big big things ahead."
